Comfort and Peace

Jan & I are asking if your prayer groups would please pray for Debi Barnhart our 3rd from the oldest daughter (51 yrs. old) who has lung cancer - stage 4 and is in ICU at Irvine (at the cancer hospital).  We were told yesterday that she may have 1-2 weeks to go.  They have called in a couple doctors from UCLA to evaluate the situation to be sure that nothing else can be done.  The family and many brothers and sisters in Christ are still believing for a miracle, but Debi is prepared to go and it is a win - win situation for her as she is a believer.  By the way, she never smoked.  She was exposed to second hand when Jan & I smoked which was when she was much younger.  Your prayers will be greatly appreciated.  God's blessings to the brothers/sisters at Calvary.

Please pray for Lynn Jackson ( a mom of one of our students).  She has been under a lot of stress and had to be taken to Emergency the day before Thanksgiving.  She had chest pains and pain radiating down one arm.  Her mother passed away during the summer, and now her father is not doing well.  She went on stress-leave from her full-time job to recover her health and to care for her father.

Prayers of thanksgiving and continued healing for preschooler, Jonathan Estiphanos' 4 month older brother, Matthew who was in a traumatic accident over Thanksgiving break.  Prayers of peace and comfort for the family as they heal emotionally.

Biopsy

Prayers of peace and comfort for Nancy Angelo (friend of Carole Adams).  Nancy will be having a breast biopsy tomorrow.  Pray for the calcium deposits to be benign!

Prayers of healing for our Spanish teacher's mother, Olga Valverde.  She fell down over Thanksgiving break and broke her hip.  She is still at UCSF and now has pneumonia.  (87 years old)

My sister Patty is having out-patient surgery tomorrow morning to install a port for her chemotherapy which starts this Friday.

Please pray for a successful surgery and limited side-effects from the chemo. Also for peace and comfort for her.

Thanksgiving

This came the week of Thanksgiving...

Since we are especially focused on 'giving thanks" this week, I would like to offer a prayer of thanks for my parents.  As many know, my mom has battled complications from diabetes for many years.  She had one leg amputated several years ago and now has a skin infection in the remaining foot.  She has been battling a gum infection and has lost several teeth with the chance of having the remaining teeth removed.  Recently,her blood sugar levels have been dropping dramatically and extremely fast.  She cannot feel it coming on, it happens so fast.  Two nights ago,my dad woke up during the night and found my mom unconscious in her chair in the living room.  My dad has become an expert in reviving her from low sugar.  This time she was too far gone and he had to call 911.  The paramedics revived her and took her to the hospital for a couple hours to make sure she was stabilized.  This is the second time in about two weeks that my dad has found her this way.  I am so very thankful for my dad and his ability and willingness to care for my mom.  I know it is so scary to not know what he will find when he comes home each day.  I am also thankful that God has His hand on them and guides my dad home or wakes him at just the right moment to be able to revive her. I know that one of these times my dad may not hear the nudges or they may not come, but for now...l give thanks.

Treatments

Please pray for Joanna Chan, she has been dealing with lung cancer for the past year.  Last week she had scans to see if it was responding to the treatments.  Unfortunately, they found three new spots.  She will be undergoing new chemo treatments.  Pray for healing and that the treatments would not make her ill. 

We gave Joanna a quilt earlier this year and a month or so ago she came to Wednesday morning quilting to thank us personally – and bring us treats.  She is a precious Christian lady.

Bill and I did go to visit Mabel at Eden Hospital  Tuesday afternoon.  We visited with Trudy and Anne Marie - Mabel was sleeping very soundly and does not wake easily.  For most of the day she had a very difficult day, in pain, very confused and very agitated. Evidently she did not hit her head when she fell and the doctor's do not know what is causing all of this.  They have done numerous tests, MRI, etc and can see that she has lesions throughout the whole area of the brain and a lot of swelling.
 
They started her on anti viral medication tonight.  Tomorrow she will have an MRI again, an echocardiogram to look for infection and a Lumbar Puncture.  They are very puzzled. Pray that the doctors find the cause of all the things that are happening to Mabel. 

Mabel and Adolf and all their family need our prayers in this difficult time.

Healing and Doctors' Wisdom

Mabel Stafne fell last night.  They took her to Eden and she has a blood clot in her left leg, also MRSA and swelling of the brain.  She was scheduled for an MRI today .  Pray for peace and comfort for Mabel and family as they await results and wisdom for the doctors as they determine how to treat Mabel.

Please include my cousin Shelia in your prayers as the pathology report just received showed some cells in the partial lung they are concerned about.  She will be starting chemo this coming week.  However, as of this time they feel she will only require three treatments three weeks apart.  Also, pray for her husband Joe as he goes through this time of treatment with her.  She and I thank you for your prayers.

Praise and Thanks

Thank you Jesus for your never-ending grace. Thank you to my family in Christ Jesus for all your prayers, love and concern. My second testing detected no cancer or anything else to be concerned about. Results showed an enlarged lymph node, the result of my body trying to fight off a bug of some kind. Next year I'll have my regular exam and I hope that all my sisters at Calvary will be doing the same.

A prayer of praise and thanksgiving for my cousin Shelia's partial lung removal surgery a week ago this last Monday.  The surgery went very, very well.  She went home on Monday and did not have to have oxygen.  I spoke to her on the phone and she was not even short of breath and says she feels wonderful.  They were all amazed at her quick recovery.  Continue to pray for her recovery and the results of the pathology which she won't have until November 1.  THANKS FOR ALL YOUR PRAYERS. Update on Marlene Mueller... She went home last Saturday and is receiving in home therapy twice a week to help strengthen her.  She is recovering well and is very thankful for all of your prayers, cards and visits.

Brian Pye's surgery went well and he is resting at home, chomping at the bit.  Stay in bed Brian!!  Prayers for a quick and full recovery.

Prayers for complete healing and successful treatments for Leanne Mueller's mother, Joyce Schwartz.  She was recently diagnosed with recurring cancer.  Spots were found on her lung and breast.  Doctor says the cancer is a regressive type and they will be able to stop progression with oral drugs.

My mother, Esther Garguilo, was admitted to Eden Hospital yesterday.  So far the doctors found she has a urinary infection, which can cause her confused state and speech problems.  They will do more testing including an MRI of her brain.  I will keep you updated as we know more.  Thank you for your prayers.

Thank you for  your answered prayers for my cousin Shelia.  Her lung cancer is Stage 1 and the lymph nodes are not affected so they will be able to remove one-half of her lung.  She will be having that surgery on Monday morning (3 1/2 - 4 hours) so please continue to pray for her and the medical staff that all will go well.  Also, pray for her to be surrounded by His healing arms and His peace and strength now and through recovery. My operation is on hold till I lose a substantial amount of weight, and the odds improve. Maybe the weight loss will negate the need for the operation. My dad, Chuck, just went into the hospital in NC with GI bleeding. They performed colon surgery and found nothing. So the hunt is on to find the cause. Please pray that someone can figure it out, this same thing happened last year and after a week in the hospital they sent him home with no explanation of cause.

Please pray for my cousin Shelia who has just learned that she has lung cancer.  She will have final results Thursday of some additional testing that will determine the course of treatment. Pray for a good result on the Monday test and guide the doctors in their choice of treatment. Strength and Comfort

Marlene has been getting stronger each day.  She is up to 100 steps now with a walker.  They say she has to go 150 and be able to maneuver into the bathroom before she can come home.  I am hoping that she will be able to come home by the middle of next week.

The quilters are a fine looking group of women.  How nice to receive the picture today. I have just had my last Radiation treatment.  I understand that I will  still feel the effects of the radiation for a couple of months,  however, the burns will gradually disappear and the CANCER should be all gone.  Bye now

Karla Regnier's mother, Willine was admitted to Kaiser yesterday.  She is getting 3 blood transfusions.  They will run more tests to find out why her blood levels are so low.  Prayers for strength and comfort.

Gloria had her oncology appointment today and she is doing well.

She now waits for her radiation to begin.  She will need 5 or 6 weeks and should be complete by mid-November.

After 3 weeks Marlene has finally gone to rehab.  She is still at St Rose just another area.  Today, aided by a PT, she was able to walk about 12 steps.  That is really good compared to a couple of days ago.  Don't know how long she will be there but I suspect it will be at least another week.  Her sister is leaving tomorrow.  She has been a big help.  Again, thanks for your prayers.  I am really looking forward to her coming home.

My sister Pat did not receive the news we hoped to hear at the doctor yesterday.  All the lumps removed had cancer cells and it has spread to her lymph nodes. She will have a mastectomy and chemotherapy.  No dates have been set yet.

Update from Steve Ray:

I'm alive ( at least for a little  longer )  Stanford was able to duplicate the 70.75 mm measurement of my aorta, but they said it was a "shift" in the aorta, not an expansion from the scan of June 2011 measuring 63.64mm. These were done with 2D scanners and Stanford is confirming with the 3D scan. (results @ the end of the week).True this is quite larger than the normal 40.00mm aorta, but does not necessitate an operation with a 30-50% success rate and a 20% paralysis rate. (Need to hook the arteries back up to the spine). The severe pain I experience under my left shoulder is when the shift expands due to elevated blood pressure and abrade my back rib cage. I now have to get a BP cuff to monitor blood pressure. Could have been worse-they prescribe more pills. The worse news they gave me is that I have to go on a diet. Dr Miller said to cut out chocolate, then I reminded him my wife works for Ghiradelli Chocolate. ( That's what maintains this wonderful figure of mine).

Healing

Continued prayers of healing for Tiffany Contier's friends father that was in motor cycle accident.  There is a lot of fluid build up around the brain and another surgery was done today.  The family is very concerned.

 

Also, Steve Ray will be having a consultation and testing on Monday, September 12 at Stanford Hospital.  It looks like he will need major surgery again on his aorta.  He will find out if this is possible and the risk involved at that time. 

Healing

Prayers for Marlene Mueller as she continues to recover.  Recovery has been very slow.  Pray for her to be encouraged and for her spirits to be lifted.  Pray for the family as they are by her side to support and encourage.

Prayers of healing for Adolph Stafne.  As of yesterday he was doing ok.  They put a temporary cath. near his aorta for dialysis and hope to try and put another port in his other arm at a later date.  Prayers of strength for the family as they go through this process with Adolph.

Prayers of healing for Van Deckert who once again has inflamation and an infection in his leg.  Also for his cousin's Aunt Alice who lives in VA.  She's lost over 50lbs. in the last two months and the doctors are not sure what is causing this.

Adolph Stafne was readmitted into San Leadro Hospital; apparently he had lost over 3 liters of blood.  Prayers of healing and comfort for Adolph and family.

Prayers of healing and comfort for Van Deckert's, aunt's neighbor, Lori.  She has back issues and has been in and out of the hospital. 

 

Please pray for Jim Lachenmyer, the father of Tiffany Contier's friend.  He was in a terrible motorcycle accident on May 6.  He is very slowly recovering and has undergown many brain surgeries.  He just recognized his daughter yesterday and has improved faster than expected and is fighting, but it has been a very slow process.  Pray for a full recovery and for the daughter to remain strong and patient and encouraged by his progress so far.

Please pray for Dorothy, an Indiana friend of the Schroers, just diagnosed with a potentially cancerous mass on her knee.  Pray that she gets a second opinion before she has the surgery, that the surgery goes well and that she is free of cancer.

 

Just a quick update on Marlene.  Kidneys function improving, swelling mostly gone, still on pain meds and antiboitics.  Started Physical Therapy on Monday.  Had a hard time getting her out of bed.  Yesterday she was able to move from bed to chair with help and even stood for a minute.  Doctors continue to say she is doing OK, but it will be a longer recovery time.  Her sister Gloria is flying in today from NM so I'm hoping that will perk her up.  Thanks again for your prayers.  Dave

Hi all, previously I had asked for prayer for Raeanne Esparza, (Rebecca Esparza's sister in law) She had a lumpectomy and they got everything and the pathology came back good. No cancer!  She has had some excess bleeding which they took care of, and will be going into rehab/assist just to make sure all is OK. Thanks for all your prayers.

My sister Pat's surgery was delayed and she did not get into the OR until 6PM.  The doctor was able to take all 3 lumps with one incision and another incision to remove 3 sentinel lymph nodes.  She is home and resting today.  She should hear from the doctor next week regarding the pathology reports.  Please continue to pray for complete healing, a quick recovery and negative results on the test.

Gloria did not get into surgery until after 2 PM yesterday and the doctor came to see me around 5:30PM.  The surgeon said it went well and we will find out in a week or so if anymore surgery is needed.  Thanks for all your prayers and for God's mercy and grace.

Please pray for my sister Barbara's stepson, Matt Ihle.  He was diagnosed with Leukemia yesterday and due to the lack of platelets, some bleeding was found in and around his brain.  Last night he had surgery to release the swelling and pressure on his brain.  They had to open his skull, clean out the bleeding mass and leave the right portion of his skull off until the swelling goes down.  They were going to insert a drain to keep fluid from developing during the healing process.  He will be heavily sedated and on a breathing machine for a few days.  When the swelling goes down, they will replace the portion of the skull they removed.  Once he recovers from this, he will start therapy for Leukemia.

 Please pray for wisdom for the doctors and complete healing for Matt.  Thank you,

Praise the Lord!  My friend, Stephanie Greelee and her husband Rusty are proud parents of a little baby girl born Aug 21.  Reagan Liberty weighed 8 1/2 lbs and is "perfect" in every way according to her grandmother.  All prayers answered as this was a very high risk pregnancy and mother and baby are well. Jonathan is now in the middle of the final test in his Marine Corps  Boot Camp training, The Crucible. Yesterday was the gas chamber and we can only assume all went as well as it can. The Crucible is a 52 hour test in which they hike 41 miles, and complete various challenges along the way, they get 4 hours of sleep twice during this period and three MRE meals. The Crucible began last night at 2:00 (So actually Tuesday morning 2 am) and ends on Thursday morning at 7:00. The last hours of the crucible are the most challenging as they conquer "The Reaper" a nine mile steep hike uphill with a 60 lb pack. This comes as they are exhausted fro the previous 30 miles of challenges and sleep and food deprivation.  

     When they arrive at the top of the hill there is a ceremony where they are awarded the Eagle Globe and Anchor emblem, a symbol of being accepted as a United States Marine! Then they will indulge in an all you can eat steak and eggs breakfast to celebrate!   

     Please pray for endurance and safety....and I pray he will lean on the Lord when he is weary. Thank you!  Annie and Steve Ellis

My treatment is going really well.  I have now had 12 Radiation treatments
and the skin is holding up.  No burns yet.  I am slated for 33 daily treatments,
so I better not speak too soon.  I do feel tired by late afternoon but
I am good at taking naps especially with my nice quilt over me even on the
hottest of days.

First prayer request, Betty Cooper sent this in but not sure that we all rec''d it, It was for Christi in Modesto that was Betty's nail lady.  She is 30 and has been having problems with stomach pain for over a year and not to long ago discovered she is in the last stages of colon cancer. Pray for her salvation, not sure what they are attempting in treatment. 

 
Second, is friends of my daughter in Oregon, just found out his mom (He is Andy Gallardo) is dying and they have given her about 48 hrs.  He is out of work and can't get down here to see her. Pray for both of them please. Thanks Jan Curler

Pray for relief

Van Deckert's right leg is hurting pretty badly.  He thinks it could be inflammation in the veins.  He has a doctor's appointment on Wednesday and called today to see if he could switch to today, but she is booked.  Please pray for relief from the pain and if at all possible, that he could get in to see the doctor today.

My uncle, Dan (my mom's brother), is in the hospital again. They did an x-ray & found a blockage going to one of his lungs. They were going to do a tracheotomy on him, but they can't seem to get the fluid out of his lungs. he is still on the ventilator, but they decided not to do the tracheotomy at this point. They have him sedated because he would rip IV and ventilator, etc out otherwise.  He also has MRSA (a severe, contagious, and highly difficult to treat staph infection)...so he is in rough shape! His kidneys are doing fine...so not everything is shutting down.

 
My mom will be traveling to Billings (a 4-hour round trip for her) to see him tomorrow. Please pray for healing for Dan, safe travel and peace of mind for my mom, and wisdom and guidance for the hospital staff.

Pray for outreach

A co-worker, Dennis, asked me to pray for him at the end of work today.  He recently lost his favorite aunt to cancer and has been struggling with depression.  Add to that he is 50, alone and and struggling with thoughts of self destructive.  I immediately prayed with him and let him know I would add him to our prayer list.

He was taken to church as a child and thinks he is a Christian, but does not practice it.  He says he is a good person and is spiritual, but  I am very concerned for his soul.  Also, pray for me for the wisdom and compassion to continue to reach out to him.

God Works Miracles!

Good afternoon;

Received an email update through Barbara Goldhammer from Annie, whose sister is Bobbi Jo - here it is!

A huge thanks to all of you for your thoughts & prayers . After all the dr's said bobbi jo's chances of ever waking up was nearly impossible, this afternoon when they brought her body out of hypothermic state and rewarmed her completley  at 400pm they were trying to stimulate by doing pain points on her body and she responded in ways no one expected, she's following commands, slowly waking up. Every md and rn in this hospital has been by her room since in disbelief that she is awake after being down without a pulse for so long. I've been by her side, she recognized me and grabbed my hand. They have since extabated her ( took her off life support) and she is being supported by only a few liters of oxygen. She's going through boughts of nausea, really bad headaches and a few abnormal rhythms on her heart monitor so we are watching her closely to make sure her heart doesn't stop again. The dr's told me she had sudden cardiac death. Yesterday I thought I was going to have to plan her funeral and now things have suprisingly turned for the best. I can't even believe it. We told the staff here how tough bobbi jo is, never did I think she could overcome this. I compare my happiness to the same as when my son was born , except my sister has been brought back to life again. She's not out of the woods yet, but I wanted to thank you ALL for being here for me during this very hard time. So far she has really bad short term memory loss, which dr's say should get better in a couple days. They will be doing a ton of cardiac testing on her to see what happened. She is a miracle.  She's her fiesty normal self. So thank you for praying for her. She's got a little girl waiting for her to get back home. Please keep her in your thoughts and thank you all SO VERY MUCH. I'm so lucky to have you all and your support right now.
