Ashton was born to Lynn & Aaron Helland at 24 wks. He weighed 1 lb, 3 oz and 12 in long on Dec. 16, 2013. At last weigh in he was 2 lb. 15 oz. and 15 in long. He is doing pretty well. He will be in the hospital until he weighs 5 lbs. The main concerns for him right now are an enlarged ventricular vein in his brain and strengthen his lungs. They have begun a series of 3 spinal taps to reduce the pressure on his brain. The first one was quite painful. And caused agitation, which is a problem for his breathing issues. They really want to get him off the ventilator. His lungs aren't strong enough yet, but I understand the longer he is on the ventilator causes other problems.
